Listed below are some of the many services provided within Ashville Lodge and in the Community for visually impaired people.

  • Clocks and watchesClocks and watchesFully Equipped Resource Centre - we have a display of daily living aids including electronic aids, talking watches, kitchen and daily living demonstration equipment, writing aids and specially designed games.  You can access computers equipped with ZoomText and Jaws screen magnification and speech systems, also CCTV magnification and display systems.  The Centre is equipped with an induction loop system for hearing aid users.

  • Volunteer Home Visitors - for those who are immobile and live alone we try to arrange for one of our Home Visitors to call.  We offer help with short trips out, or if you just want a walk or to chat, we would be happy to oblige.

  • Parents Support Group - this group meets every two months and offers advice and support for those with visually impaired children.  The Group Organisers, Sue Hadley and Kathy Hoolahan, will be pleased to give you more information and details of holiday activities for the children.

  • Craft and Creative Activity Groups - with instruction on pottery, woodwork, clay modelling and general craft-work - see Activities

  • Social Club/Sports and Leisure Club - the clubs arrange theatre trips, film shows, quiz evenings, line dancing, carpet skittles, yoga, local walks and social events.  This is a good way to meet new friends, socialise and enjoy yourself.  Membership entitles you to concessionary prices for theatre trips and to places of interest - see Activities

  • Advocacy Service - we can advise you abut accessing services, assist you with making a complaint and help take part in Local Authority consultations on planning and delivery of services.  We also provide benefit and financial advice on a confidential basis

  • Hospital Information Point - mini Resource Centre at Arrowe Park Hospital Optical Department offers advice and assistance to newly registered blind or partially sighted patients.

  • Audio Book Library - over 900 audio-tapes are available for free loan, and the talking book catalogue lists the tapes alphabetically by author.

The Centre is open between 9.15 am and 4.00 pm every week day. Appointments are not needed. Call in and see us
