The Society has always maintained its independence and remained a
purely local organisation. In order to continue its operations, the Society has
entered into agreements to provide services on several levels.
The Society has established a contract with the Metropolitan
Borough of Wirral Social Services Department to provide an Advocacy Service
open to all visually impaired people in the Borough.
The local area Health Authority has also granted a contract to
provide an Information Point at the local district hospital for all optical
patients.
Our most recent funding, October 2005, came from
The Big Lottery Fund. We were awarded 3 years funding to
employ two members of staff to run our hospital information
centre.
An Appeal was launched to raise funds for the building of an
extension and refurbishment of the Resource Centre in 1999 which raised in
excess of £180,000.
At present the Craft Room has only space for four people to work
and there is no additional space for our potters wheel. There are between 20
and 30 people who take part in the various activities and these have to be
spread out in other rooms which are unsuitable.
A portion of funding also comes from community
events, sponsorships and personal donations. The Society
is extremely reliant on this area of funding, and contributions to the Society will be gratefully received.
